What is dermatology?

Dermatology is a field of medicine that specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases and conditions of the skin, hair and nails.

How often should I see my dermatologist?

Generally, we recommend a yearly skin exam for all patients over 40 years old, but if there is a family or personal history of skin cancer, we may ask a patient of any age to come in more frequently.

What is a complete skin exam?

A complete skin exam involves the patient undressing down to their underwear. A provider will then do a visual check of the face, scalp, trunk and extremities, looking for any abnormalities on the skin. The providers will do a complete skin exam on any patient who asks, no matter what their age.

What is the best sunscreen to use?

Any sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. The higher the better.

What is a biopsy?

A biopsy is the removal and examination of tissue. We use a local anesthetic to numb the area, then remove a part of the suspicious lesion and send it to the lab for examination.

Why am I always filling out forms?

We require our patients to update their insurance and medical information every 6 months in order for us to provide the optimum quality of care that we strive for. Health information sometimes can change rapidly and we need to keep current information in order to provide the best results for you at your visit.

The waiting room is full. How long is my wait?

On most days we have more that one provider seeing patients. So while the waiting room seems busy, not everyone is seeing the same provider. One of our goals is to get our patients seen in a timely manner.

How do I get my prescription refilled?

We ask that you call your pharmacy and they will contact us with your information.

Do you accept my insurance?

We accept many insurance plans, but because there is such a wide variety, we ask that you contact the number on the back of your card to see if we are in network.
